Dr. Pepper Barbecue Sauce is the answer for a quick and easy homemade barbecue sauce that is great for grilling!
We have been on a real barbecue kick for the past couple of weeks. I’ve found a wonderful meat market that has the best trimmed beef briskets. My husband is king of the grill around our house and he has been smoking the briskets for a couple of hours on the grill and then we finish it in the oven to get it nice and tender.
Although I still remember the recipe for the barbecue sauce business that I sold, I have fun experimenting with different sauces. This one was super quick and easy and just a slight variation on the Coca-Cola Barbecue Sauce I made for ribs.
I intended to share this with you before the July 4th holiday but I was running crazy all week. There’s lots of grilling season left and barbecue sauce is something we enjoy year round. You have to try it next time you are ready to grill.
My kids love drinking Dr. Pepper and it gives this sauce a zippy sweetness, but you don’t get the distinct flavor of the Dr. Pepper. We loved it drizzled over the smoked brisket and then on burgers and pretty much every thing we ate this week.
So give this a try and let me know what you think!
- 12 oz Dr. Pepper
- 2 cups ketchup
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
- ½ teaspoon liquide smoke
- 1 teaspoon coarse salt
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon granulated garlic
- Add all ingredients to a large sauce pan and whisk to combine. Place over medium-high heat and cook, stirring often until mixture just starts to bubble. Lower to simmer and cook 5 minutes or until sugar is dissolved.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
